My sibling just published a novel! I know you may think I am biased because my sibling wrote it, but lemme tell you about this novel. I am VERY hard to impress when it comes to fiction.
Check it out:

1. The protagonist is a woman, and a woman who is not pointlessly sexualized, is not reduced to components attractive to heterosexual men, is not a stereotype, is not clicheed, and is 3-dimensional and dynamic and flawed. She's complex and funny and awkward by turns and you genuinely want her to be grow as a person, which she does.
2. The supporting characters are varied, individual, and also interesting. You root for the supporting cast just as much as you do for the protagonist!
3. The fantasy world in which the novel is set is extensively constructed, complex, consistent, and coherent. The conceptualization of magic is original.
4. The plot is engaging, well-paced, and has a completely satisfying conclusion which STILL DOES NOT LAPSE INTO CLICHE!
Go read this book. Seriously!
